They may be young, but cousins Dallas Little, 6, and Cash Hester, 3, know what COVID-19 is. They have family members in healthcare who deal with it daily. In a show of support, the young duo decided to decorate their relatives’ driveways with chalk art.
“They know that these workers are heroes,” says Dallas’s mom Jessica Little. “They wanted to show them how proud we were of the work that they were doing and we wanted to lift them up and encourage them.”
Drawing the colorful rainbows, hearts, crosses, and notes gave Jessica and the kids an idea.
“We all saw how much it meant when we did our first driveway, so we decided that more frontline workers could use some joy and positivity when they come home from a long shift,” Jessica tells Now Habersham.
Together, they launched the “Hero Lives Here” campaign.
Habersham Medical Center designed the signs. Superior Scoreboard Sales and Services of Gainesville and some generous HMC employees paid to print them.
“We purchased 250 signs to get us started for all the frontline staff,” Jessica tells Now Habersham. She and the kids now spend part of their day putting up yard signs, spreading smiles. They plan to distribute at least five signs a day in the coming weeks and hope to be able to purchase more to distribute in the future.
They’re taking requests.
If there’s an HMC employee and resident of Habersham County you’d like to honor, message Jessica Hester Little through Facebook.
“Although we may be in a shelter in place, we are continually looking for ways to do random acts of kindness around the community,” she explains, “and we encourage others to look for ways to support all essential workers during this time.
