Herman Roy Masters

obit flagHerman Roy Masters, age 88, of Demorest, GA passed away on October 25th at his home following an extended illness. He was a lifelong resident of Habersham County and member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and other leadership roles over many years. Mr. Masters served in the United States Navy during World War II. Though he retired from Flowers Industries and Hillside Memorial Chapel, Mr. Masters continued working as an avid gardener, the woodworker and beekeeper.

Mr. Masters was the son of the late Garnett and Dorothy Reid Masters of Demorest, GA. He was preceded in death by his brothers Robert, Oscar and Charles.

He is survived by Elizabeth “Betty” Sisk Masters, his loving wife of 68 years; daughter Joyce Masters Collins of Turnerville, GA; son and daughter-in-law Gerald and Libby Masters of Milton, Georgia; five grandchildren and their spouses Libby and Michael Doggett of Raleigh, NC, Jill and Sean Trauschke of Oklahoma City, OK, Matt and Sarah Collins of Rocky Mount, NC, Casey and Erin Masters of Johns Creek, GA, and Blake and Amanda Masters of Alpharetta, GA. Mr. Masters is also survived by fourteen great-grandchildren Mary Grace, Sean, and Christina Doggett; Claire, Will, and Hannah Trauschke; Max, Davis, and Wade Collins; Caitlyn and Sophie Langley; JD and Brooke Masters; and Grant Masters. Other surviving relatives are sisters-in-law Dorlyn Masters of Demorest, Janie Allen of Demorest; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice for their love and support during this time.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Friday, October 30th at Hillside Memorial Chapel with Rev. Russ Barker officiating. Entombment will follow the service in Yonah Memorial Gardens with Rev. Brian James officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 29th at the funeral home.
