(Cleveland)- White County, Cleveland and Helen officials say they are ready for the next blast of winter weather, and this one is expected to have a much bigger punch. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning that will be in effect from 11 PM this evening through 7 PM Saturday. The affected areas are mainly north of a Tilton to Jasper to Gainesville to Homer line.

Forecasters say accumulating snow and ice is expected with heavy snowfall at times, especially Saturday. The snow…sleet and freezing rain could begin late tonight or early Friday and transition to snow Friday night and Saturday. Accumulations of 2 to 8 inches of snow and ¼ in ice can be expected.

This storm system with freezing rain and snow along with strong winds will result in hazardous driving conditions along with down trees and power lines and power outages. Winds are expected to gust up to 50 mph, especially in the higher elevations above 2,000 feet.

All residents are encouraged to prepare for extended power outages and dangerous slick roads.
White County Commission Chairman Travis Turner is appealing to all resident to stay off the roads when the ice and snow hits the area.

White County officials say they have road crews and equipment ready, with crews scheduled to work throughout the storm, law enforcement, and other public safety officials have made plans for this event.

White County Public Safety Director David Murphy advised that they have contacted the American Red Cross and they are on standby for possible deployment, plus there is plans for opening a shelter if that becomes necessary.

Murphy also advised they took delivery on 10 additional chain saws and safety equipment that they can put to use during this storm.
