Herbert Hanes “Junior” Jones

Herbert Hanes “Junior” Jones, age 84, of Turnerville, Georgia, went 100% to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 27, 2018 following an extended illness.

Mr. Jones was born on May 29, 1933 in Anderson, South Carolina to the late William and Maggie Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Z.V. Jones. Mr. Jones was a very active member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church having served in many capacities, including leading the choir and serving as a Sunday School Teacher. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Jones was retired from Clarkesville Mill with 33 years of loyal and dedicated service. After retirement, he worked for several years in the administrative department of Orbit Manufacturing.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Jones, of Turnerville; daughters, Rebecca Gail Palmer, of Gainesville; Melissa Jones, of Florida; son, Marcus Jones, of Turnerville; sons and daughters-in-law, Sam and Cindy Jones, of Turnerville; Mike and Shelly Jones, of Turnerville; brother, Hosea James Jones, of Cornelia; ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; nieces, Carol Ann Means; and Cheryl Kowalsky.  

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Holcomb, Rev. Phillip Yarber, and Rev. Robert Nix officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army, the Grant-Reeves V.F.W. Post 7720, the American Legion Post # 84, and the Rabun County DAV Post #15.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 and 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel.
