(Cleveland)- Unclaimed capital credit funds distributed by Habersham Electric Membership Corporation are now going to White County groups. Susan Baker, Manager Membership Services at HEMC said before personally handing out the funding checks, after issuing the capital credit checks HEMC has to wait five years to make sure efforts have been made to get the money to those for whom it’s intended. If the money is unclaimed after that time, the Cooperative is allowed to use the money to fund education, economic development and charitable organizations in its service area.

Tuesday, three checks were distributed to White County groups. Backpack Buddies program in White County received $5,000, Community Helping Hands Clinic in Cleveland was awarded $2,500 and $2,000 was presented to Catalyst Christian Learning Center of White County.

Rev. Andy Chambers with Backpack Buddies program said “ Wow, its great! It will almost pay for an entire month of food for the entire backpack buddy program for White County Children, that’s approximately 200 children. So this will go a long way to help us meet that monthly goal we have.”
