HELEN, Ga. — It looks like Helen voters will be asked to return to the polls in a runoff election for a seat on the city council.
Final but unofficial Helen Municipal election results have Mervin Barbree receiving the largest number of votes with 91 and Lee Landress and Randy Summers tied for second place with 75 votes each. Josh Garrison received 41 votes.
White County Supervisor of Elections and Registration Jody Davis says the tie will result in a runoff on December 5. Davis said he has not heard from either of the two candidates who tied concerning a recount.
Election results show a total of 153 ballots were cast, with 45 of those during advance voting and 105 ballots cast on election day.
Election officials have until November 14 to certify the election results.
