State Route 75 between Robertstown and Uniocoi Gap is back open to traffic. The road was closed for more than twelve hours Wednesday due to flood and mudslide damage.

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) closed the route north of Helen so crews could remove fallen trees and shore up the damage.

A team of 30 crew members hauled in dirt and large rocks to give support to embankments that washed away, according to GDOT District One spokesperson Katie Strickland.

The emergency repairs that began before 9 a.m. Wednesday were completed  around 11 p.m. and the route reopened to traffic.

“We will follow up with additional improvements in the next few weeks as the weather improves and dries out the ground,” says GDOT area manager Matt Needham.
