Heat Advisory shifts south, hot weather continues

A Heat Advisory is in effect all of central and south Georgia with the main area of heat shifting to the south.

In the advisory area, high temperatures and high humidity will combine to produce heat index values of up to 109º.  No local counties are included but you can see a full list at www.weather.gov/ffc

Despite the lifted heat advisory hot weather will continue across the region with heat index values up to 100º possible on Saturday afternoon as highs once again reach into the low/mid-90s. We saw widespread storms on Friday afternoon and though more are expected on Saturday they will not be as widespread.

With all the ongoing continuing outdoor activities for the holiday, it is vitally important to practice heat safety. Stay hydrated, avoid being outside during the hottest time of the day, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Drinking plentiful fluids packed with electrolytes is the best way to avoid dehydration. Also, remember to wear sunscreen to prevent sunburn, as extremely high UV index values of 10+.

Stay cool and stay safe!
