Georgia State Patrol (GSP) has provided information about the accident on Dicks Hill Parkway that occurred Sunday afternoon, December 8.
According to the GSP report, a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Kaitlyn Benfield, 23, of Toccoa was traveling north on Currahee Street towards Rock Road. While negotiating a left curve, the driver failed to maintain her lane and traveled off the roadway onto the right shoulder. Benfield overcorrected and left the roadway and traveled onto the left shoulder. The vehicle then traveled over an embankment. The report states that the driver was not injured.
According to Habersham County Public Information Officer Rob Moore, at approximately 5:50 p.m. Sunday, December 8, the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office received a report that a vehicle had gone down an embankment about 100 feet from the road. The caller indicated there were no injuries, but the vehicle was possibly on its side after striking a tree.
Deputies arrived on the scene and requested assistance from Habersham County Emergency Services to safely extricate the occupant from the vehicle and transport them back up the hill.
After assessing the situation, deputies determined that the crash occurred just inside Stephens County, prompting the notification of local authorities there.
