Habersham County school administrators say rumors of a school lockdown Tuesday are not true.

In a robocall to parents Tuesday afternoon, Habersham Central High School principal Wes McGee said, “We were not at any time under a lockdown.”
The rumor began, according to administrators, after a teacher at Habersham Christian Learning Center saw two young men dressed in black carrying what appeared to be rifles. The young men were in a yard next to a house just behind the Christian Learning Center.
“The teacher called 9-1-1 and law enforcement promptly responded,” McGee said. The two boys were target practicing with pellet guns. He said, “Law enforcement determined there was no threat.”
Superintendent of schools Matthew Cooper says he was told the two young men were from White County and had stayed the night at a private residence near the Christian Learning Center. He says at no time did they ever pose a threat to students.
“Apparently, false information surfaced that the two suspicious individuals were located at Habersham Central and that the school was on lock down. That was not the case,” Cooper says.
Since the incident took place in the general vicinity of Habersham Central High School and the Ninth Grade Academy, principals from both schools notified parents by phone about the situation.
