Hazel Grove Elementary first graders visited the City of Cornelia during its field trip on April 20. The City of Cornelia played host to the kids and teachers. Community Development Manager Jessie Owensby said organizing the trip was a huge team effort.
“We love hosting field trips. It means that our kids are learning about the history of our city and how our city operates. The more they know, the more involved they will be in the future, and that’s what we want,” said Owensby. “They are our future leaders.”
The students toured the Fire Department, the Police Department, the train museum, and Chenocetah Tower. During the second part of the visit, the kids had lunch at Cornelia City Park and played on the playground.
The field trip also helped satisfy the students’ public safety and history credit. They learned about firefighters, police officers, and everything that makes Cornelia unique.
