Hatchett announces bid for State Senate

Habersham County attorney and businessman Bo Hatchett is running for the State Senate District 50 seat.

Cornelia attorney Thomas “Bo” Hatchett is running for the District 50 Georgia State Senate seat. He announced his candidacy late Monday. Hatchett is the latest Republican to announce his bid for the seat currently held by John Wilkinson who’s running for Congress.

In his announcement on social media, Hatchett said he’d been approached by people in the community and local bar encouraging him to run. He thanked Sen. Wilkinson for “zealously fighting for our north Georgia values.” He said the “community’s faith in me to continue to represent our values plays an imperative part in my decision.”

Bo Hatchett is the son of Dr. Tommy Hatchett and Nora Almazan, both of Habersham County. He’s a graduate of Habersham Central High School and Georgia Tech and earned his law degree from the University of Georgia. While attending UGA law school, Hatchett interned with Gov. Nathan Deal’s office. His uncle Matt Hatchett is the Republican Caucus leader for the Georgia House of Representatives.

“One thing that fueled my interest [in politics] was seeing how much of a positive impact good people who are put in the right positions can have on the people they represent,” he told Now Habersham in an interview last year.

A former all-state high school football player and swimmer, Hatchett returned home to Habersham with his wife, Ashley, in 2017 to join the law office of Cathey & Strain. The couple has a 3-year-old daughter Hallie and is expecting their second child, Hazel, in March.
