An off-campus shooting early Friday morning forced four Hart County schools to be placed on lockout, according to the school system’s Director of Communications Grayson Williams.
Williams said Hart County High School, Hart Academy, Hart County Middle School and Hartwell Elementary School went into lockout procedures “out of an abundance of caution” until 11:50 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, as local law enforcement agencies responded to the incident.
The Hartwell Police Department responded to a shooting within the city just before the lockout, according to a news release Friday afternoon. A victim, who has not been identified, was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment, the release states, though their condition is unknown.
Police said one suspect was apprehended and arrested following the incident and that “further details regarding the investigation will be released as they become available.”
