Harris named new Piedmont College Asst. Baseball Coach

(Demorest) – Piedmont College Head Baseball Coach Justin Scali has announced the hiring of Luke Harris as Assistant Baseball Coach following four years at Adrian College.

During his time at Adrian, Harris specialized with the catchers and hitters while serving as the Head Coach of the JV program. Harris served as a recruiting coordinator for the Bulldogs while also organizing the Adrian College Baseball prospect camp.

“I am very excited to be joining the Piedmont College baseball program,” Harris said. “I am truly grateful for the opportunity given to me by Jim Peeples as well as Coach Scali and Coach Broughton. I can’t wait to work alongside such a great coaching staff. I have always had a tremendous amount of respect for the Piedmont baseball program and am thrilled to be able to wear a Lion uniform.”

Harris began working with the Michigan-based program in 2014 serving two seasons (2015-16) coaching the catchers before assuming the responsibility of hitting coach as well for the last two seasons (2017-18). Harris led one first team all MIAA catcher during his time at Adrian and helped the team to a 35-12 record in 2018.

Adrian catchers threw out 35.7 percent on stolen base attempts in 2016 with just one error that season. Harris helped the Bulldogs to four straight 30-win seasons, three MIAA tournament titles including back-to-back wins in 2017 and 2018, and three NCAA regional appearances.

“We are thrilled to add Coach Harris to our staff,” Scali said. “He brings great experience from a Division III program that was successful on a national level annually, and we are excited for the contribution he will make right away to improve our players and program as a whole.”

In 2016, Harris also joined the Fulton Railroaders in the Ohio Valley League, a collegiate developmental league, as an assistant coach. He also has worked with the U.S. Baseball Academy since 2015 as a catching, hitting, and base running instructor.

Harris was a former Bulldog himself, playing both third base and catcher from 2012 to 2014 and graduated from Adrian College in 2015 with a degree in secondary education.

He is originally from Fairview, Michigan and will assist head coach Justin Scali in all facets of the Lions baseball program.
