Halloween in Habersham

(Daniel Purcell/NowHabersham.com)

Princesses, ghosts, superheroes, and more will take to the streets tonight, pursuing CANDY. It is that time of year again, and Halloween in Habersham promises to be fun!

Cornelia

Cornelia kicks off the fun at 3 p.m. with trick-or-treating at downtown businesses. Shop owners on North Main Street will hand out candy until 6 p.m.

The city will host a costume contest at 5 p.m. at the Historic Train Depot, 102 Grant Place. The contest is for all ages. The best and most creative costume winners will enjoy cash prizes. Be on time!

The Cornelia Library has planned a fun time for children and those young at heart. Stop in and see if you can tell who those people are under the costumes! Also, enjoy candy and a fun time.

Main Street Director Noah Hamil will be in full costume for the event. While he seemed to want to keep his outfit a secret, it is rumored by those around Cornelia City Hall he’s been heard practicing, “I’lllll beee backkkk.” Hmmmmm????

“Come spend your Halloween with the City of Cornelia,” Hamil said with a deep European accent. Maybe you can guess what costume he will be wearing.

Demorest

In Demorest, known as “the heart” of Habersham County, the downtown area will be blocked off for safety so everyone can enjoy the festivities. A bounce house, balloon artist, hayride, and face painting are just some of the fun. The Fire Department is grilling hotdogs with chips, and Sweet Breads will have its traditional homemade s’mores at the event. The fun begins at 5 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m.

Parking is available in the Piedmont Student Parking area and behind the downtown area. Council members will hold trunk-or-treats to fill Halloween bags with yummy treats.

“There is so much! We all work together to make it extra special for the community!” says Sarah Rumsey from the Demorest City Clerk’s Office.

Clarkesville

Travel a tad further north, and you will experience trick-or-treating Clarkesville style. From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., businesses around the city square are ready to hand out candy for all those in costume. Don’t forget to go by the Main Street tent at 6 p.m. for a Costume Contest for kids and pets. Voting is by age group.

Clarkesville First Methodist Church is hosting a trunk-or-treat event from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. for tonight’s festivities. The church is located just off the square at 1087 Washington Street.

Parking areas on both sides of the Clarkesville square will be closed for the safety of the children and pedestrians. You are welcome to park in those areas, but no vehicles will be allowed to enter or exit between 5 and 7 p.m.

Family fun

Each event emphasizes a family-friendly atmosphere with safety in mind, so bring your candy bags, wear your favorite costumes, and enjoy the treats and thrills this Halloween!

Now Habersham will be out gathering pictures and chatting with you. Make sure to stop and let us know what you love most about Halloween! Also, remember to snap a photo of your own to share in our HABoween Costume Contest.
