District 50 State Senate candidate Stacy Hall says he’ll ask for a recount in the GOP primary runoff race in which he trails Bo Hatchett by 40 votes.
In a statement issued Monday, Hall says it’s “reasonable and prudent” to request a recount since he trails by only .16% of the nearly 25,000 votes cast. Bo Hatchett leads Hall in the race, 12,488 votes (50.08%) to 12,448 (49.92%).

Hall cites Georgia election law in backing up his call for a recount “so that all parties involved can be confident in the final count.” He adds, “This has been a very long election for everyone and I have no desire to drag it out, but with only 40 votes separating us out of nearly 25,000, I think a recount is wise so we can move forward confidently.”
Although Hall won the most votes in seven of the eight counties in the district, Hatchett’s decisive victory in Habersham was enough to offset his losses elsewhere.
Hall is the chairman of the Habersham County Commission. This was his fourth bid for public office. Hatchett is a Cornelia attorney and businessman making his first bid for public office. The two are vying to succeed outgoing State Senator John Wilkinson (R-Toccoa) who chose not to seek reelection in order to run for Congress. Wilkinson ran unsuccessfully for the GOP nomination for the 9th District House seat being vacated by Doug Collins. Athens gun store owner and Navy veteran Andrew Clyde eventually won that race in a runoff against Matt Gurtler.
The winner of the GOP Republican primary for State Senate District 50 will face Democrat Dee Daley of Rabun County in November.
