Voters in Hall County will decide whether to extend an existing one percent sales to fund education projects. The Gainesville City and Hall County school boards both passed resolutions Monday night to put E-SPLOST VI before the voters next year. In addition, both systems will recommend utilizing the sale of general obligation bonds for capital funding.
The Buford City School Board will vote on its E-SPLOST VI resolution on December 9.
The Education-Special Local Option Sales Tax will be on the March 24, 2020, ballot. If approved, money raised by the tax will be divided among the participating school systems. Funds will be used for capital expenditures such as the construction of new facilities, renovations, and land acquisition.
“If E-SPLOST VI passes, the Hall County School District will utilize funding to move forward with our ten-year facility plan and to further provide a quality of education for the boys and girls of Hall County,” said Superintendent of Hall County Schools Will Schofield.
“We appreciate the opportunity to work with our neighboring school districts to build the strongest educational environment for all students residing in Hall County so that they can compete on the global stage,” said Superintendent of Buford City Schools Dr. Robert Downs in a joint press release.
Superintendent of Gainesville City Schools Dr. Jeremy Williams says cooperation among the three school systems in planning for the future “continues to show why Gainesville-Hall County will continue to thrive.”
