History of Hall County United Way
Over the past 75 years, the United Way of Hall County has seen significant evolution and growth. It began in 1948 as the Community Chest and transformed into the United Way of Hall County in 1972.
The organization’s efforts and impact have grown exponentially over the years. Today, the United Way of Hall County stands as the largest private funding source for health and human services in the area. It has significantly contributed to the betterment of thousands of individuals and families.
“We support dozens of organizations, including the Red Cross and The Salvation Army, and focus on pivotal areas such as health, education, and financial stability,” said Kaitlin Ellison, Marketing and Resource Development Director.
Unique to United Way of Hall County is the Compass Center, a program to assist people in finding a lasting solution out of poverty. The program is called Pathways Out of Poverty and the ultimate vision is to ensure all residents of Hall County can reach their full potential, enjoy good health, and achieve self-sufficiency. Ellison added, “Our continued dedication to improving lives by uniting people, organizations, and resources has led to a stronger, safer, and healthier community.”
The most impactful year in 2024
This year Ellison believes will be the most impactful one yet. Ellison said, “We hope that this year we can pull more people in – businesses, individuals, volunteers to help us achieve our mission.”
The mission of the United Way of Hall County is “For us to create a better Hall for all…we must Unite together.”
Ellison explained, “The need in Hall County is high. Some good people need help out of horribly difficult situations and they deserve dignity, understanding, and usually just a little assistance to get back on their feet.”
Ways to help
There are so many ways to get involved in helping the United Way of Hall County to achieve its best year yet. Ellison pointed out the importance of attending the Kick-off luncheon. It is an opportunity to see what programs are out there and how to become part of an organization changing people’s lives.
“I love working for United Way because it allows me to be a part of a meaningful change in our own local community,” Ellison commented. “I connect deeply with the mission to truly improve lives and seeing the direct impact of our collective efforts every day is the reward in and of itself.”
