Hall County School District names principal for new elementary school

Laurie Hitzges will lead Everwood Elementary starting in Fall 2025

Laurie Hitzges is set to become the first principal of Everwood Elementary School in Hall County.

Hall County Schools Superintendent Will Schofield announced his recommendation for the first principal of Everwood Elementary, the district’s newest elementary school slated to open in Fall 2025. Laurie Hitzges, current Principal of McEver Arts Academy, will be formally recommended at the upcoming board meeting on Monday, November 18.

Everwood Elementary, formed by the merger of Oakwood Elementary and McEver Arts Academy, will be led by Principal Hitzges, who is excited about the new role and believes in the potential of the unified community.

Hitzges began her career as an elementary school teacher, spending 13 years in classrooms in both Broward County, Florida, and Jackson County, Georgia. From 2010 to 2015, she served as an assistant principal in Jackson County before transitioning to Hall County. In June 2015, she became Co-Principal of the World Language Academy Elementary School and was later appointed Principal of the World Language Academy Middle School in 2018.

In April, Hitzges was named Principal of McEver Arts Academy.

Superintendent Schofield highlighted Hitzges’s track record of fostering strong school communities, stating, “Laurie Hitzges has consistently shown an exceptional ability to foster community and bring students, staff, and families together around a shared commitment to excellence. We are excited to see her guide these two communities as they unite, knowing the students of Everwood Elementary will be in good hands.”
