Governor Brian Kemp has appointed Inez Grant as the new Hall County Solicitor General. In a news release issued Wednesday, Kemp says Grant will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Stephanie Woodard.
Stephanie Thompson also applied for the job. She has served as acting solicitor since Woodard was forced to resign last August as part of a plea deal with the State Attorney General’s Office for unprofessional conduct.
Grant has served the Hall County area since becoming a member of the State Bar of Georgia in 1992. She began her legal career as a front-line prosecutor in the Hall County Solicitor General’s Office, where she helped establish the county’s Domestic Violence Task Force.
Grant eventually rose to chief assistant under former Solicitor General Jerry Rylee before going on to serve for several years as chief assistant Solicitor General in Forsyth County.
For 17 years, Grant practiced both felony and misdemeanor prosecution before transitioning out of full-time prosecution to focus on her family. Since then, she has maintained a private practice in Hall County focusing on domestic litigation, criminal defense, immigration law, Guardian Ad Litem work, and Juvenile Court matters. She serves as the Solicitor for the City Court of Gainesville and the City of Oakwood.
Grant earned her undergraduate degree from Brenau University and her law degree from Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School.
Grant coached high school mock trial teams, and the State Bar recognized her for her work with the Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee. She also currently sits on Brenau University’s Conflict Resolution and Legal Studies Advisory Board.
When not in court, she enjoys spending time with her family.
