The suspect in Friday morning’s shooting death of Jeremiah James Bonds of Flowery Branch has been arrested.
The Hall County Sheriff’s Office says Altron Ellison of Gainesville was taken into custody at a location north of Gainesville just before 7:30 p.m. Friday. He was spotted by a Gainesville Police Department investigator and arrested by two Hall County sheriff’s deputies.
The 24-year-old Ellison is accused of shooting Bonds in the head during an argument in a vehicle early Friday off I-985 in Gainesville.
Sheriff’s investigators became aware of the shooting just after 1:30 a.m. on August 4. That’s when they found a witness to the crime at the entrance ramp from Jesse Jewell Parkway to I-985 northbound. Officers found the vehicle nearby with the Bonds’ body inside.
“Investigators so far have determined Ellison and the witness were in the vehicle with the victim exiting I-985 northbound at Exit 24/Jesse Jewell Parkway. Ellison and the victim began to argue, and as the argument escalated, Ellison pulled a handgun and shot the victim in the head,” says Hall County Sheriff’s Public Information Officer B.J. Williams.
The vehicle traveled through the intersection and into a ditch, where it came to a stop.
Ellison reportedly fled the scene in the direction of the Rabbittown community. Authorities searched throughout the morning but were unable to find him.
Investigators charged Ellison with felony murder, aggravated assault, and aggravated battery. He’s being held at the Hall County Jail.
