The Hall County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating a man who allegedly attempted to abduct a 12-year-old girl Thursday morning, April 24, near the intersection of East Main Street and Old Cornelia Highway in Gainesville.

According to authorities, the incident occurred around 8 a.m. as the girl waited for her school bus. The suspect reportedly emerged from a wooded area, grabbed the girl by the arm and attempted to pull her away. The girl was able to break free and run. The suspect chased her briefly but fled the scene when a vehicle approached. He was last seen running toward an old railroad overpass on Old Cornelia Highway.

The girl was not injured during the incident.

Investigators say the man did not appear to be armed.

Deputies, along with K9 units and additional sheriff’s office resources, are actively searching the area for the suspect.

Police say the suspect is a male standing at about 6 feet tall with a slender build. He has short brown hair, some facial hair, and is missing his upper teeth (lower teeth present). He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt and jeans, without shoes. He appeared disheveled and may be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Anyone who may have seen the man or has information that could help identify him is urged to call 911 immediately.

This remains an active investigation.
