Hall County School Superintendent Will Schofield will recommend to the Board of Education next week a name for the district’s newest elementary school, Everwood Elementary, which will be located at 5240 McEver Road, is due to be completed next summer.
The new school is being formed by the merger of Oakwood Elementary and McEver Arts Academy, which are set to close at the end of the current school year. A planning committee consisting of parents, staff, and community members proposed the new name.
“The name ‘Everwood’ reflects a combination of Oakwood and McEver, resonating strongly with the committee’s vision,” says Hall County Schools Director of Communications Stan Lewis.
Everwood Elementary’s red and blue colors were selected to honor the primary colors of the two merging schools.
The mascot for Everwood Elementary has not yet been determined.
“We are incredibly excited about the creation of Everwood Elementary,” said Superintendent Schofield. “Both Oakwood Elementary and McEver Arts Academy have rich traditions, legacies, and a history of excellence and innovation. The merging of these two schools will bring together the best of both, creating an even stronger community for our students.”
