Hal Crawford, age 91, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, formerly of Sautee Nacoochee, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2018.
Mr. Crawford was born on December 29, 1926, in Chipley, Georgia to the late John H. and Grace Berner Crawford. In addition to his parents and twelve siblings, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Mary Evelyn Strickland Crawford. With their daughter Pam, they led a happy, adventurous life filled with camping and around-the-world travels.
Mr. Crawford was a Veteran who served in the United States Army during World War II, and in the Marine Corps Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He also served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve and the Air National Guard. Mr. Crawford retired after 12 years of service with the James H. Matthews Company in Atlanta. He previously worked for 22 years as an engraver with the Union Camp Paper Corporation in Savannah. He was a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church in Savannah.
He was a loving father and uncle, and enjoyed going to family reunions. He was known for his humor and boyish love of fun, and was an avid lover of nature and outdoor life. Even in his eighties, he still hiked miles a day, and enjoyed kayaking, ziplining, biking, traveling, and other adventures.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Jim Holman of Duluth, and many nieces and nephews.
The family is grateful to Cece Chilaka and Ann Davis for their loving care for the past three years.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Delmar Gardens of Gwinnett, 3100 Club Drive, Lawrenceville, Georgia 30044.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
