Hail batters Habersham as late night storm rolls through

Hailstones pelted Habersham County and surrounding areas Thursday night as severe weather rolled through the region.

The hailstorm hit around 9:30 p.m. accompanied by brisk winds, heavy rain, and lightning. Pea and gravel-sized hail pounded roofs, vehicles, and pavement, catching many people off guard.

Joanna Velazquez of Cornelia captured video of the storm from her front door.

The hail lasted roughly fifteen minutes in and around Clarkesville before the storm moved west into Stephens County.

An active weather pattern has set up shop over Georgia, increasing the chances for showers and thunderstorms through Saturday.

We’ll have some dry hours in the morning Friday, followed by increasing storm chances Friday afternoon and evening.

Two separate lines of storms will impact the region on Saturday before things dry out and the sun returns Sunday.
