HABoween: Local fall festivals and events

Halloween may look a little different this year than it did in this photo taken in Clarkesville in 2019, still, there are plenty of family-friendly activities to enjoy. (Daniel Purcell/Now Habersham)

The pandemic will not put the kibosh on Halloween around Habersham this year. Local cities and businesses are still sponsoring their annual trick-or-treat events, and local churches are holding fall festivals (see list below).

The one area where trick-or-treating will be significantly changed is on Tower Mountain in Cornelia. The Cornelia City Commission decided this year it will not close off the roads in those neighborhoods. Tower Mountain has long been a popular destination for trick-or-treaters, but this year many residents have told city officials they won’t be participating due to concerns over the coronavirus.

City officials hope keeping the roads open will discourage the large crowds that normally inundate Tower Mountain at Halloween.

“While the city does not feel that it has the authority to cancel Halloween, we do respect the wishes of our citizens to make their own choice on this matter,” says Cornelia City Manager Donald Anderson.

Health officials urge those planning to trick-or-treat and attend public events to wear masks, wash hands, and observe social distancing to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and the flu.
