Habitat for Humanity is not just in the business of building homes but families and futures. Executive Director Brian Young believes now more than ever it is a crucial step for the success of the community.

“We’ve learned that safe, affordable homes for families build success through better employment opportunities, educational improvement, health benefits, and civic pride and involvement,” Young said. That is the reason behind a new program at Habitat for Humanity.

The Carpenter’s Club, launched last week, offers memberships to businesses and individuals to become a part of building the success of Habersham County.

Young believes your involvement as a member will enable more homes to be built.

“Right now, we have five families on the waiting list and many applications to review. Houses are tailored to the individual’s needs and family size,” Young added.

Number of Habitat homes

Currently, Habitat is completing a home build for a Habersham family that will be ready in about two months. “We are breaking ground on two more homes on Saturday, July 20th at 10 a.m. These houses will make our 79th and 80th.”

The location of the ceremony is 328 Rockford Creek Rd, Clarkesville.

With the rise in cost over the past four years, Young says it has been difficult. The Carpenter’s Club is an affordable way for businesses and individuals to donate and guarantees the funds necessary to keep a steady stream month after month for building houses.

“Each Partner Family is required to be involved in the process. They must complete and be accepted in the mortgage process,” Young explained.

“We also require 300 hours of sweat equity, whether it be in the construction of the home, volunteering at Habitat’s Restore, or helping others with their homes.”

100 percent of the proceeds from donations through The Carpenter’s Club go toward building houses.

Being a member

As a member of The Carpenter’s Club, there are varying donation levels. The Journeyman is any donation per month up to $25. You will receive a Carpenter’s Club decal as a loyal member.

The Foreman is the second level with a donation of $25 or more. This club level will receive a Carpenter’s Club T-shirt and decal.

The Craftsman Level is $50 or more and includes a T-shirt, decal, and 25% off twice a month at The Restore.

The Master Builder is a monthly donation of $100 or more with 50% off twice a month at The Restore, T-shirt, and decal.

Young would love for everyone to become a member of this exciting club. “It’s all about building. We build community, families, homes, and success.”
