Habersham United Way campaign kickoff Saturday

The Habersham United Way kicks off its 2016 fundraising campaign this Saturday, August 27th. The event, called “Art in the Park – A Community Celebration,” is scheduled from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Cornelia Depot & Splash Park.

The theme for this year’s campaign is Paint A Brighter Tomorrow. In keeping with that theme, there will be numerous art stations set up for the whole family to enjoy. Activities will include painting with marbles, bubble painting, free caricatures and face painting, a community mural, sidewalk chalk painting and drawing, water gun painting and more. The Splash Park will be open and there will be games.

The kickoff is aimed at bringing the community together and raising awareness of the work United Way does.

In 2015, the Habersham United Way helped fund 25 local non-profit agencies. Many of those agencies will have volunteers at Saturday’s kickoff and they’ll be available to share more information on the services they provide.

This year’s event replaces the Family Fun Fest which United Way sponsored for more than a decade. The United Way Board of Directors announced the change last month. A series of as-of-yet unannounced fundraisers are being planned for the fall. Organizers say more information regarding these events will be shared with the public as details are finalized.

Saturday’s event is free and open to the public . For more information, contact the Habersham County United Way at 706-778-0620, [email protected] or visit www.habershamunitedway.org.
