If you live on the south end of Habersham County, casting your ballot just got a little easier. The county today opened its polling precinct in Cornelia.
Habersham South Precinct, located in the gymnasium of First Baptist Church of Cornelia, is open until 4 p.m. today, Oct. 24, for Saturday voting. It will also be open for advanced voting from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. all next week, Oct. 26-30, ahead of the Nov. 3 general election.
Habersham North Precinct at the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center in Clarkesville is open during those same hours.
Habersham Countians casting ballots ahead of the election may vote at either precinct – or by mail-in absentee. Those who wait until election day must vote at their assigned precinct.
All county precincts will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on election day, Tuesday, Nov. 3. The Demorest voting precinct has moved: It is now housed at the old Demorest Elementary School – Concord Church – located at 250 Alabama St. Demorest, GA 30535.
To find out where your assigned precinct is, call the Habersham County Elections Office at 706-839-0170 or visit https://www.mvp.sos.ga.gov/MVP/mvp.do.
Those who received an absentee ballot but have not voted it and want to vote in person still can. “They just need to bring that ballot with them to turn in to the poll workers when they come to vote so that it can be canceled,” says Habersham County Election Supervisor Laurel Ellison.
More than 25% of Habersham’s active registered voters had already cast their ballots by the end of the first week of early voting on Oct. 17.
