The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office will host a free car seat check from 10 a.m. to noon this Friday, July 19, at the Habersham County Fairgrounds near Clarkesville.

According to the sheriff’s office, three out of four car seats are not used properly, making now the best time to have seats checked to increase safety in a crash.

The event is free for Habersham County residents. The child should be present to ensure the proper fit of the seat and harness.

Those attending the safety seat check should enter from the driveway on the Clarkesville end of the fairgrounds (toward the animal shelter) and exit into the large parking lot on the Diamond Fields side.

Also, during the safety seat check, school resource officers will be accepting donated school supplies at the fairgrounds, which will be distributed later this month.

The school supplies collection at the fairgrounds on Friday, July 19, is in addition to the collection at Chick-fil-A in Cornelia.
