The Habersham County School System is finalizing plans to administer the COVID vaccine to teachers and staff next week.
Director of Nursing Crystal Holcomb says plans are to begin offering the vaccine to school system staff as soon as Thursday, March 11.
“The health department plans to administer the Johnson & Johnson vaccine at each school. If staff prefer the Moderna vaccine they will offer it at the Aquatic Center vaccination site in Clarkesville,” Holcomb says.
The goal is to schedule vaccinations for teachers and staff members who want them at all of the schools on Thursday, March 11. A vaccination clinic will be set up for employees who work outside of the schools on Friday, March 12 at a site “to be determined.”
Holcomb says the plan is dependent on vaccine availability. She’s scheduled to make a presentation to the school board on March 8. Habersham County Superintendent of Schools Matthew Cooper says, “We should know more details by then.”
On February 25, Gov. Brian Kemp expanded the state’s vaccination rollout plan to include private and public school teachers and staff in Pre-K through 12th grades. They’ll be eligible to receive the vaccine beginning Monday, March 8.
