Board of Education member Ricky Williams talks with Woodville Elementary School Principal, Allison Anglin, during BOE tour.
Habersham’s Board of Education held a special called meeting Monday morning at Woodville Elementary, then toured the school. The tour is routine for the school board, which each year visits each school in the system. Principal of Woodville, Allison Anglin, led board members on a tour that included one very crowded classroom – a kindergarten class with 26 students and one teacher.
Anglin explained that she is grateful for the board’s action that approved another kindergarten teacher, so that the large class can be divided into two, and the students can be taught more effectively. The second classroom already exists in the school she explained, “The room is set up now and a teacher chosen.”
The school board’s action to approve funding of another teacher and classroom makes Anglin grateful. She also appreciates that there are plans to enlarge the lunchroom.
There are nearly 200 students at Woodville this year – a large number for one of the system’s smaller schools – and at the start of the year, “there were a lot of new students,” she said. Even with a large number of students new to the school, though, the school year had “an extremely smooth start,” she added.
In addition to touring the school, the Board of Education held a business meeting and voted to approve the following personnel:
