Habersham Medical Center officials announced today that the hospital’s nursing home in Demorest is now closed to visitors. The move was made in an effort to safeguard Habersham Home residents against exposure to COVID-19.
Administrators based their decision on guidance from the National Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and other medical organizations. They point to the “vulnerabilities associated with the elderly and those with compromised immune systems” as the reason for taking what they call a “very aggressive and proactive approach” in guarding against the virus.
Habersham Home also will employ intense monitoring, screening, education and awareness, and appropriate prevention management, according to a news release issued by HMC Wednesday.
Family members of residents reportedly have been notified. The “No Visitors Stance” is in effect until further notice. The only exceptions will be in compassionate cases, the release states.
