A two-month-long drug investigation came to a head this week in Habersham County with the arrest of three men and the seizure of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and drug packaging materials from a Demorest address.
Agents with the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO) and the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office initiated the investigation based on neighborhood complaints of drug activity.
On Tuesday they arrested 32-year-old Douglas James Mashburn of Mt. Airy, 29-year-old Stephen Crocker Duncan of Baldwin, and 53-year-old Todd Jasper Funk of Cornelia.
The trio faces a range of charges including possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and “Attempt or Conspiracy to Violate Georgia Controlled Substance Act.”
Agents tell Now Habersham that their investigation into the conspiracy continues and more arrests are expected.
The arrests this week in Habersham County are the latest in a series of operations carried out by local law enforcement in our area.
- On June 2, White County authorities arrested a man they claim was pumping a kilogram of methamphetamine per month into Habersham and surrounding counties.
- On May 15, a Loganville man was arrested in Banks County after agents say he tried to sell a pound of meth to an undercover agent.
- In April, two separate busts netted nine arrests in Cornelia and Demorest.
Area counties work together to stem the flow of illegal drugs into Northeast Georgia. The Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office is a multi-agency unit including officers from White County, Lumpkin County, Towns County, Banks County, Habersham County, Stephens County, and Rabun County, along with the Georgia National Guard Counter Drug Task Force, the Department of Public Safety, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
