Habersham man convicted of child sex crimes

A Habersham County jury today convicted a Clarkesville man on numerous charges of child sex crimes. The jury found 68-year old David Michael Dixon guilty of aggravated child molestation, aggravated sexual battery, two counts of child molestation, and sexual battery against a child under 16.

The verdict was returned at the end of a four-day long trial.

Dixon was arrested on December 10, 2015. At the time of his arrest, Habersham County Sheriff’s Sgt. Richard Stein told Now Habersham the charges against the then 67-year old Dixon stemmed from an incident involving a female relative. He said the alleged abuse occurred over a period of two years.

“It was first reported to the Sheriff’s Office and was under investigation,” said Stein, “then it was also disclosed to staff at school.”

In a press release following the verdict, Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney George Christian extended his thanks to Power House for Kids in Toccoa “for their assistance in prosecuting this case.”

Assistant DAs Meredith Davis and Ben Green prosecuted the case which was investigated by Sgt. Stein and Investigator Heidi Lass of the Habersham County Sheriff’s Special Victim’s Unit.

Dixon is scheduled to be sentenced on Monday.
