What’s that in the air? It’s the sweet smell of spring ushering in America’s favorite past time. Saturday, March 21, is Opening Day for the Habersham County Little League. Players, coaches and parents are making final preparations for what promises to be a day full of family fun.
Teams will arrive at Diamond Memorial Park on Hwy. 17 adjacent to the Habersham County Fairgrounds between 9-9:30am. The parade of teams begins at 10am.
The guest speaker for tomorrow’s Opening Day is former major leaguer Roger Erickson. Erickson, a right-handed pitcher, was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in 1977 and made his MLB debut on April 7, 1978. He played professional baseball for the Twins and New York Yankees from 1978 to 1983.
Even if your kids aren’t playing ball you can still come out and enjoy the atmosphere. There will be inflatables, face painting, concessions, a super silent auction, raffle, baseball (of course) and a special appearance by the Chick-Fil-A Cow.
