Habersham County Commissioners want to know what you think of the Sautee Mountain Retreat’s plans for a large expansion.
The company is asking to revise their 2008 site plan to include a three-floor hotel and conference center attached to the existing lodge building. Leaders will hold a public hearing on the proposal on Monday.
Sautee Mountain Retreat opened in 2009. It currently offers 15 cabins – 1, 4 and 5 bedrooms – on wooded property along Highway 255 just south of Batesville. Their lodge is a favorite in our area for weddings, corporate retreats and other gatherings.
The planned expansion will give them more than a dozen new guest suites, a full spa, fitness center, kitchen, bar and several new conference rooms.
County planning staff is in favor of the proposal and the Planning Commission voted unanimously to allow the construction to move forward. According to their report, “The addition of this building does not appear to change or negatively impact the initial goal of maintaining the natural beauty of this property.” They also point out that the new lodge will further promote tourism in the county.
Habersham County Commissioners meet Monday at 6 pm at the courthouse in Clarkesville. They’ll hold a public hearing on the proposed new construction at the beginning of the meeting.
