A state fire investigator says arson is to blame for a fire at Habersham Hardware & Home Center in Clarkesville. The blaze broke out around 4:45 p.m. Wednesday in the men’s restroom at the store on Highway 115. Store employees noticed smoke coming from the bathroom and called 911.
The investigator estimated damages from the blaze at $1,000, according to the State Fire Commissioner’s Office.
Reward offered
Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens is asking anyone with information about this fire to call the Georgia Arson Hotline at 1-800-282-5804. The commissioner’s office offers rewards of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of an arsonist. The hotline is open 24 hours a day; callers can choose to remain anonymous.
The Habersham County Fire Department is assisting with the investigation.
