Habersham Grand Jury indicts accused Spider-Man bank robber

The Habersham County Grand Jury indicted Stephen Villavasso of Norcross on April 15, 2021. He's charged with three counts of armed robbery for the Dec. 22, 2015, holdup at Traditions Bank in Cornelia.

The Habersham County Grand Jury indicted a Norcross man in connection with a holdup five years ago at Traditions Bank in Cornelia.

Known as the Spider-Man robber, Stephen James Villavasso is charged with three counts of armed robbery. He allegedly entered the bank on Cannon Bridge Road dressed in camo wearing a Spider-Man mask on December 22, 2015. Investigators say he was carrying a modified flashlight-like device and told employees it was a bomb.

According to the indictment, Villavasso presented the device to three female employees and took cash from them before fleeing.

Officers with the Johns Creek Police Department in Fulton County arrested Villavasso on January 26, 2016, after he allegedly robbed a bank in Johns Creek. Following his arrest, the GBI conducted a follow-up interview with him. Investigators say that interview resulted in them filing charges against him in Habersham. Villavasso pleaded not guilty to the Traditions Bank robbery.
