Habersham County has terminated the employment of one of its firefighters days after his arrest in a domestic violence case in Florida.
According to Habersham County Public Information Officer Rob Moore, Lt. Christopher “Mack” Palmer was fired for violating county policy. His termination comes nine days after Daytona Beach Shores police arrested and charged him with first-degree battery.
“Habersham County does not comment on personnel matters but can confirm that Mr. Palmer was terminated from employment on Thursday, June 20, 2024,” says Moore.
Palmer, who is the son of Habersham County District 1 Commissioner Bruce Palmer, was placed on administrative leave following his June 11 arrest.
According to the incident report from the Daytona Beach Shores Public Safety Department, Palmer admitted to battering his girlfriend during an argument.
The alleged incident occurred while the family was vacationing in Florida.
