Habersham County voting steady on election day

Habersham County voter turnout for the May 21 Primary Election is steady on election day. All six precincts are open and as of 4:20 p.m. this afternoon, approximately 1,800 votes had been cast.

Some precincts are busier than others. Mt. Airy and Demorest precincts have seen low voter turnout during the day but expect voters to begin arriving after they get off work.

Habersham North precinct had a very busy day. Twice as many voters have cast a ballot at the North Precinct when compared to the South precinct at the same time.

Below is a breakdown by precinct of how many ballots had been cast so far on election day.

Amy’s Creek

As of 3:45 p.m., Amy’s Creek had 155 ballots cast. According to the poll workers at the precinct, they have been steady all day. Several times during the day they have had a line form due to the number of voters that showed up at one time.

Habersham North

As of 4:00 p.m., the Habersham North precinct had 845 ballots cast. According to poll workers at that location, there has been a steady flow of voters all day.

Habersham South

As of 4:00 p.m., the Habersham South precinct had 407 ballots cast. Even with the low number of votes, poll workers expect business to pick up after 5:00 p.m. as people come home from work.

Mt. Airy

As of 4:22 p.m., Mt. Airy had 69 ballots cast, a bit slower than expected. However, poll workers expect more voters to turnout after 5:00 p.m.

Demorest

As of 4:15 p.m., Demorest had 51 ballots cast. Poll workers expect voter turnout to pick up prior to polls closing.

Mud Creek

As of 4:00 p.m., the Mud Creek precinct had 255 ballots cast. Poll workers there say that it has been a steady turnout for most of the day and expect it to pick up prior to polls closing.
