Habersham County is embarking on a year-long project to update its Unified Development Code (UDC). The update will address current community needs and evaluate them for inclusion in the 2024 Comprehensive Plan.
The project aims to simplify the UDC document and make it more searchable and user-friendly. It will incorporate graphics to clarify design standards, consolidate and update definitions, and revise dimensional standards to reflect desired land use and development patterns.
The UDC update will focus on five key areas:
- Improving housing choices;
- supporting economic development;
- addressing public safety and traffic concerns;
- protecting natural resources and scenic views;
- and preserving rural areas and farmlands.
The county encourages community participation. This fall, the development team will host pop-ups across the county to meet with stakeholders. Following stakeholder reviews and initial edits, the draft UDC will be available for public review in the spring of 2025, after which there will be a second round of edits and an open house.
The UDC’s final draft will be publicly released on the project website in the summer of 2025 before being submitted to the Habersham County Board of Commissioners for consideration.
