Habersham County residents can have more of a say in how their government is run by volunteering to serve on a board, authority, or commission.
The Habersham County Board of Commissioners is looking to fill the following vacancies:
Board of Health – The appointee will serve a six-year term ending Dec. 31, 2028, and will be required to attend prescribed meetings held at 12:30 p.m. on the first Friday of the month following the end of each quarter (January, April, July, October) in the Executive Conference Room of the Administrative Building, 130 Jacob’s Way, Clarkesville.
Development Authority – The appointee will serve the balance of a six-year term, ending February 2026, and will be required to attend monthly meetings in addition to any required training. The meetings typically are held at 3:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month in the Executive Conference Room of the Administrative Building, 130 Jacob’s Way, Clarkesville. Deadline to submit an application is Friday, March 17.
Recreation Board – The appointee will fill the remainder of a three-year term, ending Dec. 31, 2023, and will be required to attend quarterly meetings in addition to any required training. The meetings are typically held at 6 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month following each quarter (January, April, July and October) at Habersham County’s Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center, 120 Paul Franklin Road, Clarkesville. Board of Ethics panel – The appointees (pool of 10) will be required to serve for a two-year term. The Habersham County Board of Ethics will be comprised of 10 Habersham County residents who each has been a resident of the county for at least one year preceding the date of taking office and must remain a resident of the county while serving on the panel. Each member of the Board of Commissioners will designate two qualified residents to provide a pool of 10 individuals. Should the investigating committee determine a complaint warrants a hearing before the Board of Ethics, commissioners will at next public meeting draw names randomly from the listing of qualified residents until the specified five members have been appointed. The Board of Ethics will elect one of its members to serve as chairman. Deadline to apply is Friday, April 14.
