Habersham County public schools closed for remainder of week

Continuing power outages and cleanup force other schools to close, too

Habersham County public school students and staff will not return to the classroom until at least Monday, September 18. The school system is closed for the remainder of this week due to Tropical Storm Irma.

Habersham County School Superintendent Matthew Cooper made the following announcement Wednesday afternoon: “Due to the widespread devastation in our county and the slow recovery process, all schools will be closed for the remainder of the week. We know our county and the power companies are doing the best they can with a very tough situation. We believe our decision to close for the rest of the week will give them ample time to restore power and clear our roadways. We are praying for each of our families as you attempt to recover in the coming days.”

Tallulah Falls School (TFS) and Faith Christian Academy are closed until Monday. All three of North Georgia Technical College’s campuses and Truett McConnell University in Cleveland also are closed for the remainder of the week.

The Habersham Raider varsity football game versus Stephens County originally scheduled for Friday has been rescheduled for Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 7:30 p.m.

Tallulah Falls’ Assistant Dean and Director of Security, Dustin Rogers, says TFS coaches will contact athletes concerning practices and contests that have been scheduled for this week.
