Habersham County voters went to the polls Tuesday to decide who’ll be on the ballot in November. They selected party nominees in runoffs for governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, and school superintendent.
Here are the results of Habersham County’s July 24th primary runoff:
Republican Runoff
Governor
Casey Cagle – 1,651 (35%)
Brian Kemp – 3046 (65%)
Lieutenant Governor
Geoff Duncan – 2236 (49.70%)
David Shafer – 2263 (50.30%)
Secretary of State
Brad Raffensperger – 3062 (70%)
David Belle Isle – 1288 (30%)
Democratic Runoff
State School Superintendent
Sid Chapman – 69 (52%)
O.E. Thornton, Jr. – 64 (48%)
Voter turnout was strong. In all, slightly more than 20% of the county’s active, registered voters cast ballots in the primary runoff. Close to half of those ballots were cast during early/advance/absentee voting, according to figures released by the county elections office.
