A Habersham County man is behind bars after a brief chase Sunday that ran from Cornelia into Banks County. Joshua Adam Doster, 46, faces numerous charges tied to entering auto and burglary cases in the area.
On Nov. 12, at approximately 9:39 a.m. Cornelia police officers responded to a possible burglary at 706 Skyland Drive.
“The suspect, identified as Doster, was seen from a video trying to make entry into the residence by the homeowners,” says Cornelia Police Chief Jonathan Roberts
Officers reportedly tried to stop Doster’s truck as he was leaving the area, but he failed to stop.
“Doster fled the scene driving in a reckless manner through side roads within the city limits leading several law enforcement agencies on a high-speed chase into Banks County,” says Roberts.
PIT leads to rollover
The truck ended up on Wofford Creek Road off Hwy. 441. There, an Alto police officer, at the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office request, initiated a PIT maneuver. The maneuver caused the truck to overturn before landing on its wheels.
According to the sheriff’s office, the wreck did not injure anyone and did not damage the Alto police vehicle.
“It was a perfect PIT, so there was no damage sustained to the Alto car,” says Habersham County Sheriff’s Investigator George Cason. “There was no contact made by our [HCSO] cars.”

Stuff ‘flew out of the truck’
The Cornelia Police Department and the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office are investigating several incidents that possibly involve Doster.
Earlier in the day, he allegedly broke into another home off Foster Street in Cornelia while the resident was at home.
“Items from the residence are currently missing,” says Chief Roberts.
A short distance from Foster Street, deputies investigated multiple entering auto cases Sunday morning on South Quail Trail off Old Cleveland Road near Cornelia Elementary School.
“I found stuff that flew out of the truck when it was rolling down the road that actually belonged to our first victim on South Quail Trail,” says Cason. “We also found a quantity of suspected marijuana. There were multiple different drug-related objects such as syringes, cap syringes, stuff like that, that were strewn out of the truck while it was rolling down the road.”
Charges
So far, the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office has charged Doster with second-degree burglary, six counts of entering auto, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug-related objects.
The Cornelia Police Department has charged Doster with first-degree burglary, criminal attempt to commit burglary, and fleeing and attempting to elude.
The trooper from GSP Post 6 charged Doster with driving under the influence.
