It’s that time of year. Many local governments are beginning to work on next year’s fiscal spending budgets. Habersham County will begin the fiscal year 2025’s budget hearings with department heads, elected officials, judicial officers, and constitutional officers this week.
During these meetings, the departments will make their budget requests for the next fiscal year. They will only have 15 to 20 minutes to present. Each department is instructed to be prepared to discuss its operating and capital budgets, requests for additional positions, and contracted services.
The hearings will occur over a three-day period beginning Tuesday, March 26, and concluding Thursday, March 28.

They will begin at 9:30 a.m. each morning. The Tuesday and Wednesday meetings will conclude around 4:00 p.m. each day. The Thursday meeting will wrap up the budget hearings and conclude before 12:00 p.m.
The meetings will provide the necessary information from all departments for the finance office to create a draft county budget. Once the draft budget is created, the county administration will make additions and cuts based on revenue expectations for FY 2025.
The hearings will be held in the Commission Conference Room in the Administration Building at 130 Jacob’s Way in Clarkesville.
