Habersham County Ranks in the Top 20 in the state when it comes to overall health and well-being.
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute put together the 2015 County Health Rankings for Georgia. Looking at all of the state’s 159 counties, Habersham ranks at #18. Of our neighboring counties, only Hall ranks higher at #17. Forsyth is the healthiest county in Georgia according to the report.
“The annual County Health Rankings measure vital health factors, including high school graduation rates, obesity, smoking, unemployment, access to healthy foods, the quality of air and water, income, and teen births in nearly every county in America. The annual Rankings provide a revealing snapshot of how health is influenced by where we live, learn, work and play.”
Habersham County ranks worse than the state average in a number of factors including the number of people reporting “poor or fair health,” “adult smoking,” and “teen births.”
We rank better than average in many categories including lower levels of “sexually transmitted disease” and “alcohol-impaired driving deaths” and better “access to exercise opportunities.”
Most of the rankings use statistical data from 2012 or before meaning some of the factors may have changed during the ensuing years.
