Voters across Georgia set records for voter turnout during the 2024 election cycle. Even with only one contested local race, Habersham County voters turned out in large numbers to cast a ballot. Habersham County voters cast a total of 23,398 ballots.
Since no one qualified as an independent or write-in candidate, local elections were decided during the May primary and run-off elections this past spring and early summer. However, even with only one candidate to vote for in the general election, voters still had a voice with each ballot that was cast.
In all of the uncontested races on the local ballot, no unopposed candidate received more than 21,000 votes. In fact, all unopposed local candidates had “write-ins” ballots cast in opposition by voters.
Below is a listing of all unopposed local candidates in Habersham County with their vote totals, “write-in” vote counts, and votes not cast for each seat.

No one will know who the write-in candidates were for each seat. There were no candidates that qualified and state law does not require election offices to count votes for an unqualified candidate, only to report that a vote was cast as a write-in.
As for voters not casting a ballot for a candidate for a particular seat, the reason could be as simple as the voter didn’t know the candidate and therefore didn’t cast a ballot for that seat.
