The countdown is almost over to one of the most highly anticipated annual fall events in Northeast Georgia.
On Thursday night, Oct. 17, thousands of people are expected to attend the E-911 Children’s Fun Fest from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Habersham County Fairgrounds. Approximately 90 vendors will be at the fairgrounds, manning games and handing out free candy.
This event allows children (and adults) to meet their local E-911 dispatchers, EMS personnel, firefighters, and state and local law enforcement officers. They’ll also get to see emergency vehicles up close and learn more about what public safety does.
Habersham County E-911/EMA Assistant Director Melanie Bellinger says they’ve been planning the event for a year.
“We start planning when one has finished,” she says. The thing she is most looking forward to Thursday evening is “The participation of everyone as we all come together as a community.”
Organizers encourage children (and adults) to dress up in costumes. Admission is free. Gates will open at 5 p.m.
Halloween with Heroes
Next Thursday, Oct. 31, the Carnes Creek Fire Department in Stephens County will host its 2nd Annual Halloween with Heroes. Like the E-911 Fun Fest, this family-friendly event will include trunk-or-treating, children’s activities, and a chance to meet local public safety officials.
The 2nd annual Halloween with Heroes is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Stephens County Recreation Department off Rose Lane Park Drive in Toccoa.
The event is free and open to the public.
